Oteh ‘ll be given opportunity to publicly prove allegations – Reps
Abuja — Chairman of the Ethics Committee set up to investigate bribery allegation by Director General of The Securities and Exchange Commission, SEC, Ms Arunmah Oteh, against the chairman of the House Committee on Capital Market and Other Institutions, said, yesterday, that SEC boss would be given an opportunity to publicly prove her allegations.
In an interview with Vanguard in Abuja, Chairman of the Ethics Committee, Hon. Samson Osagie, said since the allegation was publicly made, she would have to prove it publicly too.
It would be recalled that during the suspended public hearing on the near collapse of the Capital Market, the Director General of SEC accused the chairman of the committee, Hon. Herman Hembe of demanding a bribe of N39 million from the commission.
Her allegation forced the chairman of the committee to disqualify himself from continuing with the probe, forcing the House leadership to constitute an Ad Hoc committee to continue with the probe.
The House also constituted a new Ethics committee headed by the Minority Whip, Hon. Samson Osagie to investigate the allegations.
In an interview with Vanguard yesterday, Osagie whose committee will start sitting on April 17 said it would conduct its affairs in public.
“All parties involved would be invited and they would appear in public to defend themselves and to prove their allegations. The chairman of the committee will appear in public and the Director General of SEC will also appear in public. She made weighty allegations in public and we will give her opportunity to defend those allegations in Public” he said.
